Ripped off by Gretchen Wilson?

Our beloved redneck woman, Gretchen Wilson, is tied up in a copyright infringement lawsuit with rock band hippies, the Black Crowes.  The attorneys claim Gretchen's new song Work Hard, Play Harder is a rip off of the Black Crowes' 1991 song "Jealous Again."   The Gretchen song is being used on the TNT TV advertisements for their show "Saving Grace"

Is it song thievery? Listen to the two songs and see what you think.  Leave your comments below!

Too Old To Slip N Slide?

When is the last time you were on a Slip N Slide? 10 years? 20 years? Before kids?

My two young boys are 6 and 3, but I was the one who wanted to get a Slip N Slide for them to play. (Ok, more me than them!) It was great! I bought it on clearance and had a cool pool area at the end of it.  What's not to like!?

I thought I could be Superdad and try out the Slip N Slide for myself. I did great the first couple of times, being very cautious not to crack a rib. It was a blast and the boys enjoyed it too. After a few turns on the slide, I got a little cocky... a little to confident maybe? And went full blast and like a belly flop from a 50 foot bridge, I ate it... pretty hard. I lay there for a few minutes while I catch my breath, the water pouring on me and gathering in pools around me like a beached whale.

That was two weeks ago... my ribs still hurt. I probably cracked a rib. It's like the Mom on A Christmas Story... "You'll crack a rib!"

I later read the instructions and it very boldly says... Only For kids 5-12 years!

Ever thought you were invincible despite your better judgment?  I am not Superdad!

It kinda looked like this...

Boys Night Out

Momma needed some downtime from two of the wildest boys on the planet.  So I took Trale (6) and Mason (3) to see the movie they've been bugging me to see since it came out: Wall-E.  If you have little ones you know, it's a crap shoot on whether we will make it through the whole movie due to the boys' said wildness.  We got to the counter to buy popcorn and Mason is running around like a Tasmanian Devil.  The lady in front of me says, please you go first so you can corral the boys into the theatre.  She actually talked to the boys and kept them company until we got all of our concessions ready.  I was greatly appreciative indeed!

We got settled in our seats about the time preview came on.  Mason would ask, "Is this Wall-E?"  I would say "no, it's coming up in just a few minutes."  When the next preview came on Mason asked again.... "Is this Wall-E?" I realized, he was going to ask this after every preview.... so this time I said yes until he figured it out that it wasn't Wall-E.  Then it was ..."Daddy! this isn't Wall-E"  20 minutes later of trying to figure it out we are underway.

The movie took a little figuring out at the beginning, but it all comes together nicely in the end.  I really enjoyed it!  The boys also seemed to enjoy it, because we made it to the end of the movie without incident.  Kudos Pixar!  Here's a tip: make sure you are there to see the mini-movie: "Presto!"  It's the funniest short film from Pixar yet!

KRMD loves KTBS

I can't tell you how much I love the crew at KTBS 3.  Let me count the ways....

It was a magical event yesterday during the KRMD sell-a-thon for the KTBS 3 St. Jude Dream Home.  Many of the news team stopped by as guest DJ's as we sold tickets and raised money for St. Jude Children's Hospital.

They were so nice, fun on the air, and the most genuine people you'd ever meet.  You can tell they have a good vibe at the TV station.

Our combined vibes were like a meeting of the media giants which created such an uber-amazing on air event!  Thanks again to Jan Elkins, Joe Haynes, Sonja Bailes, Rob Brennan, Tim Fletcher, Mark Rowlett, Sherri Talley, Ed Walsh, and Gerry May for hanging with us!  It rocked!

KRMD listeners raised $18,000 for St. Jude!  I big thank you to our listeners!!  There is no way radio or TV people would be on the air without our loyal listeners and viewers behind us!  Thank you!

Sherri Talley brought her camera and interviewed some of us... Check out the KRMD interviews on Sherri's Blog site!

You can still get in on the KTBS 3 St. Jude Dream Home by calling 1-800-724-2423... Do it!

Cash remix??

Johnny Cash is getting a makeover.... But does he really need one? Lots of folks are doing Cash remakes. Everlast... you know, the dude from House Of Pain "Jump" recut Folsom Prison. Check out the remix...

Last week, I read about another Cash Remix CD coming out in October... The original Cash cuts with a little extra beat. It's Johnny Cash Remixed  Click on the songs titles for a sample Big River and Belshazzar.

Whatcha think? Leave your comments below.

Just for fun... a tribute to Johnny Cash from Snoop Dogg... in his debut country single...."My Medicine"

I ripped off the idea for this entry from Jody Lowery's blog. :)
Now you know.

Kung Fu Out The Window

If you have little kids, you probably have dozens of little fast food toys all over the place. One very special fast food toy has been living under my car seat for weeks now. It's a Kung Fu Panda, you know, from the movie... it  makes little Kung Fu noises when it's shaken or moved.

So, imagine... a Kung Fu Panda going off under my seat everytime I hit a bump, hit my breaks, or made a turn.... "HEEEE yaaa!!!" and something else that sounds kinda dirty actually..."Skadoosh!" Whatever that means.

I had enough! I removed it very carefully from under my seat, not to disturb it so I didn't have to hear it again.... found the switch... and hee yaaaa! It was all over.  Peace and quiet.
Now it guards my desk... watch out!

If you're getting high off them fumes, I'm chargin'

Pump #2 was my home for about 4 hours today at the Raceway gas station today.  In my auto machanic shirt and bandana, I was ready to pump gas!  It's Horseshoe Casino's 14th anniversary, and they offered gas to the public for $1.40 as part of the celebration.  I volunteered to be one of the gas pumpers.  I figured I pumped about 500 gallons myself out of the 10,000 total gallons!
People wanted them some $1.40 gas... so much that one dude got here at 2am and camped out for the cheap gas.  Remember when we thought $1.40 for gas was high?  It wasn't that long ago either.

Surprisingly, many of the vehicles coming in were the high-end expensive SUV's.  You'd think people who own those cars wouldn't care much for waiting in line for cheap gas... but they came in droves!  On the other side, there was a story of a lady who just lost her job, no unemployment coming in and was down to her last $6. She got $10 bucks from her friend to get $1.40 gas.  Lots of amazing stories today.

Got to hang with Sherri Talley, Gerry May and the crew at KTBS-TV 3.  They were all crackin' on each other and shooting video for their blogs.  Sherri even washed a few windows... Check out their blogs linked too.  BTW, Sherri, Gerry and more from the KTBS-TV crew will be guest DJ's on Wednesday July 16th during a special KRMD radiothon for the KTBS 3 - St. Jude Dream Home.

My first crazy gas promotion was a trip... literally... I got a little loopy from all the fumes!  haha!

Todd on the Tube

I am the M.C. for the upcoming Baron's Ball event at Fox Creek Farms on August 9th. It's a benefit for the American Cancer Society. They invited me to be on their TV Public Service Announcement spot.  I forgot my toupee on the shoot. Take a look! Enjoy!

I'm used to hearing myself on the radio, but not while looking at myself... so that took a little adjustment! haha!! Special thanks to Fox 33 for shooting and airing it for us, and to Julie Colvin and Brooke Henry for getting me on the tube!

Things Overheard July 4th Weekend

Overheard in the Nixon Household this July 4th Weekend...
1) "Sorry officer, I didn't know the speed limit" - Me: Pulled over in Carthage, Texas...I got a warning

2) "Was it natural or medical?" - Cashier at Walmart: asking me about my baldness

3) "Hope that's not poison ivy!" - Me: geocaching with the kids... Jury still out on if I got it.

4) "Oops...Watch out!" - Me: at the golf driving range as I, somehow, hit a golfball behind me.

5) "Gimme my beer or I'll withhold the grandchildren" - Brother-in-law: talking to my Dad who hid said beer.

6) "I think your hair is growing more" - My Mom: pointing to my peach fuzz on top of my head. I had to tell her... it's decidedly so that my hair will not be coming back.

7) "Knock Knock... Who's There?... Bridge... Bridge Who? Pee off the bridge" - My 3 year old son, Mason: telling me a Knock knock joke.

Hope you had a nice July 4th Weekend. As always, thanks for stopping by.
