Country By Costner

Did you know that Kevin Costner sings?  Me neither.  Word has it, before he was a big movie star, Kevin did some singing and songwriting with a band called Roving Boy.  Well, now that he's done the whole movie star thing, Kevin's got some time to do some music with his new band: Kevin Costner and Modern West.

Here are a few live cuts of Modern West.  Also, check out their myspace page  to listen to some studio cuts. Oh!!... and the Video.

With the barrage of crossover pop acts like Jessica Simpson and Darius Rucker into country... are you ready for actor crossovers too?

I'll have another weekend like this please

Ever sit around the house... eye twitching... feet tapping... knee slapping... wanting to do something OTHER than sit around the house?  On a typical weekend, that's me.  Knee slapping and all.  Really.  Itching for SOMETHING to do.

Not this weekend.  I did nothing.  Absolutely nothing.

I sat in my lazy boy for the better part of the weekend.    I napped at leisure, watched movies, and played around the house with the kids when not sitting in said lazy boy.

I stayed off the computer.  Myspace/Blogger/Email was never lonelier than this weekend.  Amazing what you can find to do when you plan to do nothing.  Like teach my oldest son to ride his bike, catch up on the newest movies... even watched an indie movie!  Well, I guess I did do some things.  I truly enjoyed having just an open weekend and not trying to fill my calendar with something to do.

My work schedule, most of the time, does not allow me these luxurious time filled weekends.  I might plan one of those weekends again very soon... maybe from the comfort of my couch next time.

Happy Friday!

My wife told me last night that my blog has been too serious lately.  So I thought I'd share some goofy stuff today...
>>Have you noticed that over the past few weeks, a select group of people have lost their minds over Sarah Palin.  A farmer in Ohio, etched her image into 16 acres of corn.  Enjoy.
How 'bout another look at KRMD's Derek James in Pink Spandex

I hate social sites

But for some reason I can't get away from them. They keep sucking me back in. I even tried to delete my myspace page, but a simple problem with my email address keeps me from throwing it in the trash.

So I figure I'll bring'em all back...for now. As a disclaimer, don't expect me to be prompt in returning comments or posting those funny pictures or poke you. :) Haha!! Just sayin'.

My focus will be my little website here. But if you feel like you must stalk me on myspace/facebook/etc, look under the blogcast player on the right.

Government Bail Out...what!?

I try to steer away from politics, but this is too wild.  Heard about the big government bailout yet?  It's something like $700 BILLION dollars worth that will go to struggling mortgage companies in exchange for a chunk of equity for the government in these mortgage companies.  It would then free up credit lines for mortgage companies to lend more money.  Now, with the assumption that the economy improves, the taxpayers would profit from this bailout.

What's wrong with this picture?  Do you see the government stepping in when your power gets cut off or when your late on the car note, etc.?  No.

All this seems strange... thoughts?

Some say it's either bailout or recession... pick one.   I thought we were already in recession... or so they say.

Emmy's This Sunday

I know...the Emmy's, big deal right?  Apparently all the hosts of the upcoming Emmy Awards got in a little scuffle.  Check it out!

Kimmel is awesome!  He has a prime time show just before the Emmy's on Sunday night

Media Race

Louisiana Downs held its annual Super Derby Media Race today. KRMD's Derek James and myself participated in the race... check out the highlights below.

We weren't much competition to the others in the race. I almost came in last place! I'm really whooped after the 100 yard dash. At least I knew what it was like to be a horse for a while in the block. It was fun, even if I didn't win it!

Thought Process Pudding

Ever start reading something or search for something on the internet and an hour later forget how you got to the current website you were looking at?

Here's my thought process from today:
** Looking through the Shreveport Times for some good local info to talk about.

** Clicked on the page about cheating in school.

** Found out that you can scan and reprint a coke bottle label with answers embedded in the print.  Instructions on YouTube.

** Searched YouTube to learn how to reprint a coke bottle label.

** Found Mythbusters Video about turning a 2 liter bottle into a bomb using only dry ice and water.

** Remembered to search for last year's Super Derby Media race video on YouTube.

** Remembered I was supposed to be finding interesting things to talk about on my radio show today.

Happen to you?

Power to the people!

All this hurricane stuff has made me dizzy!  Ready for a hurricane free weekend?

It's funny.  I heard on the news yesterday that people were actually calling the power company and saying they were "a medical priority" so they should get their power turned on first.  Clearly lying about it...

Calling the power company saying you have "a medical emergency," will not get your power back faster so you can catch the LSU game.

It's funny when I hear folks say the Power company is being slow getting everybody turned back on.  The power company is losing money by not having power on in the neighborhood.  It behooves the power company to get it back on fast, so they can make money again.  You think?

We were pretty lucky at our house in Shreveport, not to lose power during Ike.  But if I had lost power, I'd be glad it wasn't 105 degrees outside!  Whoof!  Thank god for cold fronts!

SNL Back!

Saturday Night Live was able to talk Tina Fey into coming back to portray VP Candidate Sarah Palin.  I have no idea why...
This was pretty funny.  Enjoy!

Now back to your regularly scheduled blogging.

Didn't ike Get The Memo?

Hurricanes aren't supposed to mess up the weekends.  Didn't Mother Nature get that memo? Hurricane Gustav already robbed us of Labor Day... now Ike hi-jacks another weekend?  'Sup wit that?!

If you are into Weather websites.  I got a couple of cool weather sites that'll make you drool.

Click here for a site that scans the web for just about every radar image and computer model for incoming storms.

This site grabs a bunch of different sites and puts them together in one screen.  Complete with streaming video!

My other weather nerd sites:

www.ktbs.com (for local weather)

Stay safe!

7 Years Later

I remember when it happened.... watching every moment on TV in total disbelief.

Now 7 years later, I wonder every year.  Should we keep doing some sort of tribute on the air?  Is it a big deal to keep bringing this up?  Would it be a big deal if we just did nothing in tribute today?

No doubt, the worst disaster ever.  Is it ok, just to say, hey I remembered today.  Is it necessary to do the whole salute with songs, sounds, and stories from 9/11?

I want to say, this is it...The last tribute today.  Until next year anyway.

I will always remember.  We won't forget.  What a day.

What is this word?

My first grader, Trale, made this word out of the magnetic letters on the refrigerator this morning.  He tells me, "Daddy!  Look at this big word I just spelled"  Do you know what this word means?
Comment your "guess" below.

Mona Lisa in 80 Nanoseconds!

One of my favorite shows on TV, The Mythbusters, created a contraption that can paint the Mona Lisa with only paintballs in 80 nanoseconds!  The slow-mo is really cool!

I have some other science talk on today's blogcast on the side of the page.

Yeah! It's Monday!

Errr... not really that excited about this Monday.  Check out the Todd Audio on the right side of the blog to hear about today's particular Monday.

I can see clearly now the rain is gone.

The sun is back.  Whoop Whoop!

It's been a week since we started getting freaked out over Gustav coming to Louisiana.  We got a ton of rain, it stuck around for days.   We were under cloud cover a lot.  Making me lazy, backed up at work, and for some reason, it seems, I forgot my vocabulary.  Well, at least, when I need the words for conversation.

Simple sentences... gone.  Simple objects... gone.

I blame the... uh....um.... whatever it's called.

Thanks Gustav...

TV Commercial Music Addiction

You ever hear these strange songs on TV commercials, and then they get stuck in your head. You have no idea who sings it, let alone a title. The Target "Dorm" TV spot gets in my head and won't leave. I'm walking down the hallway strutting to the beat, when somebody asks, "whatcha singin'?" I never know the answer. I went on a conquest to find answers to a couple I know you've heard.

The Target "Dorm" Commercial: Enur - "Calabria"

How about that Apple Ipod "1-2-3-4" Commercial: It's by Fiest, called "1-2-3-4"

Strange songs, terribly addictive. I'm sure there are others I'm missing...

Whoo! It's been busy!

It all started last week... with pink spandex at Pink Friday, then it was Hurricane Gustav...on Labor Day.
Next thing I know, It's like I haven't worked in five days!  Even though it's been so busy I can't think.  I don't know how that happened, and now my desk is piled high with stuff.  And my blog hasn't been updated in over a week.   My apologies.. here's a quick blog catch up.

1) KRMD morning guy, Derek James in Pink Spandex. I will have nightmares for years to come.

2) We dodged a bullet or storm... or insert which ever storm cliche you'd like to use here.
Big kudos at to our friends at KTBS 3, who did a bang up job on the storm coverage.

3) That's it!?  I thought there was more.  Anybody want to help with the big stack on my desk?
