Mission: Bolt!

The Radio City Rockettes were in town with a lovely Christmas show.  But, there was no way us fellas were going to go the girlie rockettes show.  We sent momma, while we went on our own adventure.   The Louisiana Boardwalk was OUR territory for tonight's escapade.

Our mission tonight: to see the new movie Bolt! in 3D!  But first, a stop by the arcade to shoot some video game baddies.  Trale found one game where it was his transformer against another transformer.  After 5 rounds, that other transformer didn't know what hit him... It was a Trale, master of the video game universe!  Booyah!

Off to the theatre.  But first, a pit stop to the lobby concession stand, take out loan, buy popcorn and candy.  Now we're ready for the adventure of Bolt! in 3D.  Glasses on: we're ready.  Mason was unfazed by the characters, weapons, and other projectiles that looked like they would hit him through the 3D specticles..  This was not Trale's first 3D movie, so he too was not going to let a big dog bark him out of the theatre.

With Popcorn and candy successfully down the hatch, the movie ended.  Another successful night out with my gang.

Mission accomplished.

Back in Action...

...for one more week anyway...Christmas is next week!  Whoo hoo!

Did I rest on my time off?  Get away from stress?  hmmmm....

The KRMD Transmitter caught fire!  That's right!  I have pics of our burned up radio transmitter here.  We are still on the air, just at a lower power.

Other than that...

I broke my one day geocaching find record with 16.  (The old record was 10.)  Saw the shuttle while hunting with my wife and 3 year old.  That was pretty cool.  Mason about flipped out in the back seat when he saw it.

Went to the station Christmas Party.  I won Mudbugs tickets in one of the door prizes!

Getting ready for a big break next week, heading to Texas to see family!  Do you have big plans for next week?

Riding off into the sunset...

Tonight I'm taking some time off for a couple of days to recharge. Since I've been moving around so much in the past 12 months, the end result is that I haven't taken any vacation time in nearly two years! I know, it's my fault, but I am still fried from the experience!

In other news, It snowed in Houston today... that's right Houston! James Anthony came in and told me about it so, I immediately called my Dad up and the first thing he told me was that it was snowing hard right now. I couldn't believe it! He was driving down the road at the time and said the snow was starting to slow down traffic. I guess so! It only snows once about every 2 to 3 years...maybe.

Back on the blog Monday!

Not your typical Christmas tune.

Thanks to my buddy Leslie for jogging my memory.  One of my favorite Christmas tunes is "Merry Christmas From The Family" from Robert Earl Keen .  Christmas, Texas style!  You may have heard the Montgomery Gentry version of this song.  The REK version is the original and, in my humble opinion, the best.  So, get your celery and can of fake snow and enjoy!

Lookie here! 200 posts! 200 Ramblings! 200 paragraphs of non-sense! 200 thank yous and many more for checking out the "Todd Blog" for the past couple of years! Woop Woop!

In my current writing, where I repeat myself to make a point...

We are at the cross-roads in the time line of our great country. Take time to be thankful for the family and friends you have in your life. Take time to think about what you can do to help your fellow man. Take time for a cause bigger than you! It's been a tough time for many, but together we can rebuild this nation, both financially and politically. We the people...

Happy Thanksgiving!! Back with my ramblings on Monday.

Just call him - Dwayne

Tim McGraw's agent has been trying to get him on to host Saturday Night Live for 5 years!!  He's in a new movie that might have helped him finally get that hosting spot.    If you missed Tim McGraw on SNL this weekend, here's a sample for you.   Tim, um... I mean Dwayne plays some cards with James Bond.

Tim also does a fantastic job as a turkey!

Don't stack dominoes near a 3 year old!

Yesterday, we made a visit to the Sci-Port , or as my two boys like to call it, "The Sci-porium"

It was pretty quiet yesterday, not crowded or anything.  Well...it was quiet until we showed up!

An older gentleman and his (12 year old?) grandson were in "the zone" stacking dominoes to topple on a play table.   Mason spotted it quickly and ran over there to see what they were doing.... he took a look and walked away to do something else.  After a few minutes, and after Daddy walked away to look at the "self-lifting" chair,  I hear this crash!  It was a noticeable noise. It was Mason, who ran over back to the domino table, destroyed an afternoon's work of domino stacking.

I figure they didn't want the dominoes to topple just yet.  The old man and his grandson looked at each other and at me in astonishment... like somebody stole their puppy.   Embarrassed and also chuckling inside, I took Mason, briefly said sorry and ran to another room to play.

Sorry to terrorize your dominoes, but really... it's a kids play table.  Was it that unexpected?

I'm sure there are other kids out there who terrorize the public?  Got any stories?

Happy Veteran's Day

There are nearly 326,000 veterans in Louisiana , which includes the 27,000 currently serving our country.  Remember to take some time today to thank a Veteran.  Thank them for the service to our great country.  ...and don't forget to remember those Veterans who paid the ultimate price for our freedom!

My Dad served our country in Vietnam as a medic.  I always make it a point to give him a call to say thanks and talk some politics too.

Happy Veteran's Day!

State Fair Fun

The State Fair Of Louisiana wrapped up this weekend. Throughout all the madness: the 8 hour carnival ride binge with my kids, the demolition derby, the Kevin Fowler show... I had a ton of fun for my first State Fair experience!

Speaking of the Kevin Fowler show... it rocked! The man can perform! He was super cool back stage too. My wife Holli had been neglected of Kevin's stage antics for over three years and was starting to see the onset of "Crazy Wife Syndrome" or CWS.  It's a real disease where the wife goes crazy.

The State Fair weather bubble held up nicely since it hardly rained in the past three weeks.

I even saw a green gorilla... Amazingly, there IS a woman behind this green furball. It's not a real gorilla, just so you know... nobody was in danger.

A new day...

What an amazing election last night!  I watched every second of the results on TV.  Glued to the tube as each state was declared blue or red.   Then it was.  "We have a new president!" declared at 10pm last night.  I couldn't believe it was over and done so fast.... no fuss... no recount.... done!

I have many views both conservative and liberal.  I truely believed that no matter who won, a new day was coming.  We couldn't lose!  I figure, what could be worse that the current situation in our country.

I now many of my readers are Republican to the core and pretty bummed about the results of last night.  But, think about this... a black man... with a terrorist-sounding name like Barack Hussein Obama... who came from nothing ... was able overcome all of that and took hold of the majority of country.

It says a lot about the current affairs of this country and no matter what party you support, it was a pretty impressive display from voters.

It's time to move forward from this election madness.  It's time for us Americans to take our country back!  Everybody has to be involved in the future.  Let's work together and start making things happen again for the good ol' U.S.A.  Now is the time!

Now that this reality show is over, back to my Discovery Channel, Reruns and other election coverage detox

Monday, November 03, 2008

My name is Todd, I have ECAD.

The ultimate reality show is about to come to an end: The 21 month long U.S. Election. I must say I have been addicted to all the election coverage. I believe there is a medical term for this addiction: It's Election Coverage Addiction Disorder.

I've been following the happenings of both parties on TV and all over the internet and TV, checking the polls like a bookie. Who's the next president going to be?! I'm hanging on every second of coverage.

I might need election coverage detox when it's all said and done, but I don't have a problem...

Still undecided?  Click here for a Candidate Match-O-Matic to help you choose.  Now, get out there and vote!

Running on Todd Power!

Miles-per-gallon in car sales have been largely amplified since the surge in gas prices this summer. Ever wonder how many mile-per-gallon you get? Not your car...you!  I found an online quiz that estimates how far you would be able to walk on one gallon of liquid food before you pass out.
Here's my HUMAN miles-per-gallon...

Death-defying Russians

How to fix A/C units 16 floors up, Russian style!

Bonus for Wall Street?

What would happen if you did a really bad job at work?  REALLY bad... like you need a $700 Billion bailout?  You probably wouldn't have a job, let alone a bonus, right?  That's exactly what 2/3's of the workers on Wall Street are expecting.  A bonus.

The average bonus for those on Wall Street?  $262,000!  Some bonuses are in the 7 figure range.  Seems a little crazy given the recent financial turmoil.  Maybe I just don't see it.  Do you see it?

School Lunch Lacking

If you did your learning at a public school, you probably hurled at some point in time after eating the mystery meat served at the school cafeteria.

Recently, two Louisiana parishes sampled were the only school districts out of the 20 surveyed in the U.S. that failed!  Caddo Parish was one of those surveyed that received an "F" for the lunch served to its pupils.   According to the survey, it was mainly because Caddo schools didn't meet the standards on fat content, food choice, and lack of food group balance.

A couple of weeks ago I ate a tray lunch with my son Trale at his school.   The boneless chicken wings were a little dry, but it wasn't so bad.   It had great veggies, fruit, and milk too.

When I was in school, I remember the brocoli was brown and my favorite day was pizza day.   I always got strange looks when I ate the salisbury steak.

What was your favorite food you -would not- eat at school?

Adios Spaghetti Brain

I have no idea why I remembered this or how it got stuck in my brain today. It's so old, and if you're not from Texas... you may not remember this anyway. It's Texas Governor Rick Perry saying some choice words to a reporter.  Enjoy this flash back!  It's funnier the more you play it.

Palin on Saturday Night Live

The REAL Sarah Palin showed up on Saturday Night Live tonight... Preliminary numbers for Sarah's appearance on "Saturday Night Live" are already in . . . and, as usual, she was a huge draw. Some reports estimate SNL averaged around 14 million viewers, including 17 million for the first half-hour.

The other crisis...

I have been fuming with this for about a week... and deciding how to approach this on my site.  Here I go...
With all the focus on the nation's economy in this year's election, there is another crisis that is getting swept under the rug.  It's partially created our economic problem in some ways.  It's our Health Care System!

I find myself, the older I get, getting involved with the issues in our world.  The environment and economy have been hot buttons of mine lately, but I now have one hot button that trumps them all.  I will tell you now, you will probably perceive my view as liberal, communist even...at first.  Give me a moment, and I'll show you that I'm not.  I'm not a republican nor a democrat.  I'm an American wanting the best for me and my family.

47 Million Americans, including children, have no health insurance.   Millions more have insurance, but aren't covered enough due to pre-existing conditions, insurance loop-holes, high premiums/co-pays, etc.  18,000 people die every year directly due to no insurance or lack of sufficient insurance.

We are in the wealthiest country in the world....Out of all the wealthy countries in the world, we are the only country without universal health care for our people.  The UK, France... heck... even Cuba takes care of all health care for its people.

We need health care for all Americans NOW!  Care based on need, not ability to pay.

I know what your thinking.  That's socialism...or we're going to lower quality healthcare.  That's all bogus. It does not mean that our medical system will be taken over by the government and run like the post office.  We will get the same, if not, better medical services than before.

This means higher taxes, of course, but how much are you paying for your insurance per month?  I bet it's outrageous.  The current proposal, H.R. 676 calls for a 3.3% personal payroll tax to pay for universal health care in the U.S..  I don't know about you, but I'd gladly pay 3.3% of my salary not to have to pay nearly $10,000 per year in insurance premiums.    H.R.676 would SAVE the American people billions and still be able to provide us the highest quality medical services in the world.

Health care in this country shouldn't be about profit, it should be about people.  We, as a nation, can take health care in our own hands by making it available to all, when needed.   No more people dying due to lack of insurance, no more people filing bankruptcy due to medical bills.  It's taken care of by the American people for the American people... the way it should be.   All we have to worry about is getting better when we get sick.

Now... I could talk about this forever.  I'm pretty passionate about it.  I hope I sparked interest about health care for all and bill H.R.676  Call you local, and state governments and tell them you want them to support H.R.676.

Please read up about it and spread the word.
Watch "Sicko" on DVD ... Yes its a Michael Moore movie.  You don't have to watch his other movies.  This movie is about you and me.  Well worth the time to watch!  It'll make you fightin' mad what's going on in health care today.
Go to this website to get the facts on the Health Care Bill, H.R. 676, now gaining steam.
Email this website to your friends to read.

Please leave your comments below.  I'd love to hear your views on this too....for or against.

Bag O Milk

Trale has been bugging me for a week about going to this book fair they are having at school.  Holli suggested that I go have lunch with him then go to the book fair.  What a great idea!  So I got to school, stood in line, and got my tray lunch.  It's looked tasty enough, but one thing was significantly different than when I went to school.

Remember when you went to school and you got a carton of milk or chocolate milk?  Ever had a bag of milk?
It was literally a plastic bag of milk.  I had to ask Trale, "how do you drink this?"  He said you poke it with the straw.  That sounded easy enough, but he had to show me how.  As you can see, you just poke the milk in the middle.  The boneless drummy sticks were pretty tasty with a BBQ sauce, vegetable medley, mashed potatoes, fruit and a slice of bread.
We got an ice cream from the snack bar and picked up a Pokemon book and reptile book at the school book fair.  It was nice to see how Trale spends his day at school.  He's such a cool dude.

Full Moon Freak Out

Is it me, or are people today a little more touchy and moody? The folks here at the radio station are acting strange. The wife is having out of body moments. I'm not quite myself either.

At lunch a co-worker says the full moon is making people go crazy! I said, "Reeeeaaallllly? Is it full moon? That explains everything!"

I checked. Full Moon is tonight at exactly 8:02pm.  Folk lore has it that full moons cause temporary insomnia and insanity.   Even though scientists say there is no strong evidence for effects on human behavior around the time of a full moon, ask a police department or hospital.  They'll tell you the lunitics come out on full moon.  I believe it!

So enjoy your night of lunacy, but please return to your normal state of sanity soon.  Thanks!

Conspiracy!

It's funny during this election time that there are no country artists to be found on the TV talk show circuit.  I haven't seen any country artist on the lineups of Leno, Letterman, Kimmel... or even Ellen's show for well over a month!

It's a conspiracy... Against what, I'm not sure.  Because there are both democrat and republican country singers.

I know it's a conspiracy...my spidey senses are tingling.

Kenny Chesney does appear on Leno on Oct. 15th... if it's not canceled!

Can you spare $700,000,000,000 please?

I hate politics and try to stay out of those conversations, but I gotta say has this bailout nonsense gotten out of hand?  Last night, the bill was passed to bailout the ailing financial district to the tune of over $700 billion dollars.  Who's paying for that?  That's right, you and me.

I give props to our two Louisiana Senators for voting NO on the bailout.  It took some real cojones to reject the big money.

I don't think this downturn in the economy is soooo bad that the government needs to fix what greedy people on wall street did.  Maybe a few jobs will be lost, it may be tough going, but haven't we done this before?  We came out on the other side just fine.  It's an adjustment to our economy. People got greedy and we're paying the price.  Hey!  Maybe the prices on homes, goods, gas, etc. will come back down so the average joe can afford to live again.

Have you heard they will have to add another digit now to the "national debt clock" in new york city to 14 digits due to this bailout.   The creator of the board only made it with 13 digits, not imagining that the debt would get that high.  That's 10,000,000,000,000 now!

A transfer of $700 Billion dollars to the people who got us in this mess in the first place?!  Way to go Washington!   I heard today: Somebody tell these yahoos that you can't save a drowning victim by rendering C.P.R. while the victim is still in the pool.

Enjoy the party on us Wall Street.    Comment below and vent....

Country By Costner

Did you know that Kevin Costner sings?  Me neither.  Word has it, before he was a big movie star, Kevin did some singing and songwriting with a band called Roving Boy.  Well, now that he's done the whole movie star thing, Kevin's got some time to do some music with his new band: Kevin Costner and Modern West.

Here are a few live cuts of Modern West.  Also, check out their myspace page  to listen to some studio cuts. Oh!!... and the Video.

With the barrage of crossover pop acts like Jessica Simpson and Darius Rucker into country... are you ready for actor crossovers too?

I'll have another weekend like this please

Ever sit around the house... eye twitching... feet tapping... knee slapping... wanting to do something OTHER than sit around the house?  On a typical weekend, that's me.  Knee slapping and all.  Really.  Itching for SOMETHING to do.

Not this weekend.  I did nothing.  Absolutely nothing.

I sat in my lazy boy for the better part of the weekend.    I napped at leisure, watched movies, and played around the house with the kids when not sitting in said lazy boy.

I stayed off the computer.  Myspace/Blogger/Email was never lonelier than this weekend.  Amazing what you can find to do when you plan to do nothing.  Like teach my oldest son to ride his bike, catch up on the newest movies... even watched an indie movie!  Well, I guess I did do some things.  I truly enjoyed having just an open weekend and not trying to fill my calendar with something to do.

My work schedule, most of the time, does not allow me these luxurious time filled weekends.  I might plan one of those weekends again very soon... maybe from the comfort of my couch next time.

Happy Friday!

My wife told me last night that my blog has been too serious lately.  So I thought I'd share some goofy stuff today...

I hate social sites

But for some reason I can't get away from them. They keep sucking me back in. I even tried to delete my myspace page, but a simple problem with my email address keeps me from throwing it in the trash.

So I figure I'll bring'em all back...for now. As a disclaimer, don't expect me to be prompt in returning comments or posting those funny pictures or poke you. :) Haha!! Just sayin'.

My focus will be my little website here. But if you feel like you must stalk me on myspace/facebook/etc, look under the blogcast player on the right.

Government Bail Out...what!?

I try to steer away from politics, but this is too wild.  Heard about the big government bailout yet?  It's something like $700 BILLION dollars worth that will go to struggling mortgage companies in exchange for a chunk of equity for the government in these mortgage companies.  It would then free up credit lines for mortgage companies to lend more money.  Now, with the assumption that the economy improves, the taxpayers would profit from this bailout.

What's wrong with this picture?  Do you see the government stepping in when your power gets cut off or when your late on the car note, etc.?  No.

All this seems strange... thoughts?

Some say it's either bailout or recession... pick one.   I thought we were already in recession... or so they say.

Media Race

Louisiana Downs held its annual Super Derby Media Race today. KRMD's Derek James and myself participated in the race... check out the highlights below.

We weren't much competition to the others in the race. I almost came in last place! I'm really whooped after the 100 yard dash. At least I knew what it was like to be a horse for a while in the block. It was fun, even if I didn't win it!

Thought Process Pudding

Ever start reading something or search for something on the internet and an hour later forget how you got to the current website you were looking at?

Here's my thought process from today:
** Looking through the Shreveport Times for some good local info to talk about.

** Clicked on the page about cheating in school.

** Found out that you can scan and reprint a coke bottle label with answers embedded in the print.  Instructions on YouTube.

** Searched YouTube to learn how to reprint a coke bottle label.

** Found Mythbusters Video about turning a 2 liter bottle into a bomb using only dry ice and water.

** Remembered to search for last year's Super Derby Media race video on YouTube.

** Remembered I was supposed to be finding interesting things to talk about on my radio show today.

Happen to you?
