Running on Todd Power!

Miles-per-gallon in car sales have been largely amplified since the surge in gas prices this summer. Ever wonder how many mile-per-gallon you get? Not your car...you!  I found an online quiz that estimates how far you would be able to walk on one gallon of liquid food before you pass out.
Here's my HUMAN miles-per-gallon...

Death-defying Russians

How to fix A/C units 16 floors up, Russian style!

Bonus for Wall Street?

What would happen if you did a really bad job at work?  REALLY bad... like you need a $700 Billion bailout?  You probably wouldn't have a job, let alone a bonus, right?  That's exactly what 2/3's of the workers on Wall Street are expecting.  A bonus.

The average bonus for those on Wall Street?  $262,000!  Some bonuses are in the 7 figure range.  Seems a little crazy given the recent financial turmoil.  Maybe I just don't see it.  Do you see it?

School Lunch Lacking

If you did your learning at a public school, you probably hurled at some point in time after eating the mystery meat served at the school cafeteria.

Recently, two Louisiana parishes sampled were the only school districts out of the 20 surveyed in the U.S. that failed!  Caddo Parish was one of those surveyed that received an "F" for the lunch served to its pupils.   According to the survey, it was mainly because Caddo schools didn't meet the standards on fat content, food choice, and lack of food group balance.

A couple of weeks ago I ate a tray lunch with my son Trale at his school.   The boneless chicken wings were a little dry, but it wasn't so bad.   It had great veggies, fruit, and milk too.

When I was in school, I remember the brocoli was brown and my favorite day was pizza day.   I always got strange looks when I ate the salisbury steak.

What was your favorite food you -would not- eat at school?

Adios Spaghetti Brain

I have no idea why I remembered this or how it got stuck in my brain today. It's so old, and if you're not from Texas... you may not remember this anyway. It's Texas Governor Rick Perry saying some choice words to a reporter.  Enjoy this flash back!  It's funnier the more you play it.

Palin on Saturday Night Live

The REAL Sarah Palin showed up on Saturday Night Live tonight... Preliminary numbers for Sarah's appearance on "Saturday Night Live" are already in . . . and, as usual, she was a huge draw. Some reports estimate SNL averaged around 14 million viewers, including 17 million for the first half-hour.

The other crisis...

I have been fuming with this for about a week... and deciding how to approach this on my site.  Here I go...
With all the focus on the nation's economy in this year's election, there is another crisis that is getting swept under the rug.  It's partially created our economic problem in some ways.  It's our Health Care System!

I find myself, the older I get, getting involved with the issues in our world.  The environment and economy have been hot buttons of mine lately, but I now have one hot button that trumps them all.  I will tell you now, you will probably perceive my view as liberal, communist even...at first.  Give me a moment, and I'll show you that I'm not.  I'm not a republican nor a democrat.  I'm an American wanting the best for me and my family.

47 Million Americans, including children, have no health insurance.   Millions more have insurance, but aren't covered enough due to pre-existing conditions, insurance loop-holes, high premiums/co-pays, etc.  18,000 people die every year directly due to no insurance or lack of sufficient insurance.

We are in the wealthiest country in the world....Out of all the wealthy countries in the world, we are the only country without universal health care for our people.  The UK, France... heck... even Cuba takes care of all health care for its people.

We need health care for all Americans NOW!  Care based on need, not ability to pay.

I know what your thinking.  That's socialism...or we're going to lower quality healthcare.  That's all bogus. It does not mean that our medical system will be taken over by the government and run like the post office.  We will get the same, if not, better medical services than before.

This means higher taxes, of course, but how much are you paying for your insurance per month?  I bet it's outrageous.  The current proposal, H.R. 676 calls for a 3.3% personal payroll tax to pay for universal health care in the U.S..  I don't know about you, but I'd gladly pay 3.3% of my salary not to have to pay nearly $10,000 per year in insurance premiums.    H.R.676 would SAVE the American people billions and still be able to provide us the highest quality medical services in the world.

Health care in this country shouldn't be about profit, it should be about people.  We, as a nation, can take health care in our own hands by making it available to all, when needed.   No more people dying due to lack of insurance, no more people filing bankruptcy due to medical bills.  It's taken care of by the American people for the American people... the way it should be.   All we have to worry about is getting better when we get sick.

Now... I could talk about this forever.  I'm pretty passionate about it.  I hope I sparked interest about health care for all and bill H.R.676  Call you local, and state governments and tell them you want them to support H.R.676.

Please read up about it and spread the word.
Watch "Sicko" on DVD ... Yes its a Michael Moore movie.  You don't have to watch his other movies.  This movie is about you and me.  Well worth the time to watch!  It'll make you fightin' mad what's going on in health care today.
Go to this website to get the facts on the Health Care Bill, H.R. 676, now gaining steam.
Email this website to your friends to read.

Please leave your comments below.  I'd love to hear your views on this too....for or against.

Bag O Milk

Trale has been bugging me for a week about going to this book fair they are having at school.  Holli suggested that I go have lunch with him then go to the book fair.  What a great idea!  So I got to school, stood in line, and got my tray lunch.  It's looked tasty enough, but one thing was significantly different than when I went to school.

Remember when you went to school and you got a carton of milk or chocolate milk?  Ever had a bag of milk?
It was literally a plastic bag of milk.  I had to ask Trale, "how do you drink this?"  He said you poke it with the straw.  That sounded easy enough, but he had to show me how.  As you can see, you just poke the milk in the middle.  The boneless drummy sticks were pretty tasty with a BBQ sauce, vegetable medley, mashed potatoes, fruit and a slice of bread.
We got an ice cream from the snack bar and picked up a Pokemon book and reptile book at the school book fair.  It was nice to see how Trale spends his day at school.  He's such a cool dude.

Full Moon Freak Out

Is it me, or are people today a little more touchy and moody? The folks here at the radio station are acting strange. The wife is having out of body moments. I'm not quite myself either.

At lunch a co-worker says the full moon is making people go crazy! I said, "Reeeeaaallllly? Is it full moon? That explains everything!"

I checked. Full Moon is tonight at exactly 8:02pm.  Folk lore has it that full moons cause temporary insomnia and insanity.   Even though scientists say there is no strong evidence for effects on human behavior around the time of a full moon, ask a police department or hospital.  They'll tell you the lunitics come out on full moon.  I believe it!

So enjoy your night of lunacy, but please return to your normal state of sanity soon.  Thanks!

Conspiracy!

It's funny during this election time that there are no country artists to be found on the TV talk show circuit.  I haven't seen any country artist on the lineups of Leno, Letterman, Kimmel... or even Ellen's show for well over a month!

It's a conspiracy... Against what, I'm not sure.  Because there are both democrat and republican country singers.

I know it's a conspiracy...my spidey senses are tingling.

Kenny Chesney does appear on Leno on Oct. 15th... if it's not canceled!

Can you spare $700,000,000,000 please?

I hate politics and try to stay out of those conversations, but I gotta say has this bailout nonsense gotten out of hand?  Last night, the bill was passed to bailout the ailing financial district to the tune of over $700 billion dollars.  Who's paying for that?  That's right, you and me.

I give props to our two Louisiana Senators for voting NO on the bailout.  It took some real cojones to reject the big money.

I don't think this downturn in the economy is soooo bad that the government needs to fix what greedy people on wall street did.  Maybe a few jobs will be lost, it may be tough going, but haven't we done this before?  We came out on the other side just fine.  It's an adjustment to our economy. People got greedy and we're paying the price.  Hey!  Maybe the prices on homes, goods, gas, etc. will come back down so the average joe can afford to live again.

Have you heard they will have to add another digit now to the "national debt clock" in new york city to 14 digits due to this bailout.   The creator of the board only made it with 13 digits, not imagining that the debt would get that high.  That's 10,000,000,000,000 now!

A transfer of $700 Billion dollars to the people who got us in this mess in the first place?!  Way to go Washington!   I heard today: Somebody tell these yahoos that you can't save a drowning victim by rendering C.P.R. while the victim is still in the pool.

Enjoy the party on us Wall Street.    Comment below and vent....
