Two Years Of Blogging Ramblings

Two years ago, I cranked up the Todd Blog.  I know... is there something better that I could be doing? Sure, but what fun is that?

While I got you here, I wanted to let you know about the new stuff on the site. The left side of the blog is for the blog, of course... but the right side of the page has all kinds of new cool stuff to check out and click on.
**I've got a new widget to the right that allows me to do mini-podcast and drunk dial my blog. Click play and your ears will be joyful.

**I get a ton of video content from CMT, and occasionally put up my favorite videos.

**Links - Lots of great local sites that I update regularly.

So as a present for being loyal to the Todd Blog (now ToddOnAir.com) I give you cheese.

Thank you for your support and reading my ramblings for the past two years.

Feeding the weekend with fun! (for free)

In between pay periods, a little low on the dough?  I got a great place to unwind and it won't cost you a thing.  Well, unless you want to bring some bread with you... It's the Duck Pond Park on East Kings in Shreveport.

This is exactly what we did this Sunday.  We loaded up the boys in the car, grabbed the loaf of bread that was getting ready to expire and made our first visit to the famous duck pond.  The ducks immediately saw the bread and began to hunt us down for some free grub.   The boys loved it!

I hit a geocache nearby and played for the next hour with the boys at the playground area!
Got a low dough location for the family?  Post it below!

Fun with Keywords

Looking through some of my website statistics and found something interesting.  One of my stats allows me to see what keyword searches people used to find my website.  Here are some of the different search term keywords that people used on Google that pointed them on my website.
1) "Getting High On Gasoline Fumes" was linked 3 times to my site from google.  No doubt in relation to this blog.  But you would not learn how to get high from fumes here.

2) People from KTBS-TV 3.  We love the gang at KTBS.  I have links to many of their blogs on my page.... but somebody did a search for "Jody Lowery KTBS married?" and found my website instead.

3)  I don't know why on earth somebody would want a "Nixon Impersonator"  but they searched for one, and they probably found this instead on my website.

4) Somebody wants to dump a spouse.  Some guy searched "take my wife for cash" found ToddOnAir.com

5) "Todd's Hasselhoff"  This Todd does not have, or want to own a Hasselhoff.

If you like pina coladas...

It's that time of year, when summer comes to a close... and I don't want it to end... and I want to be on an island somewhere away from the world!

I tell my wife all the time, "one day, I want to live on a tropical island where it's 85 all the time and they sell pina coladas on every corner." Or... "I'm running away to Mexico!" is often said in an exclamation when I've had enough. Of course, I'm always bluffing... but a vacation getaway would be nice!

Where to you dream about running away? Even if you're bluffing....

First Day for First Grade

Remember those first day of School jitters?  You spend days before getting your new clothes together, getting your school box organized with your pencils and crayons.  Then the big day comes.  New teacher, new classmates.  Nerves are high, you're about to explode with excitement!  It's the first day of school!
My 6 year old son, Trale has been so excited to start school since his last day of school in Florida this past summer.  He started first grade this morning.  This is a brand new school, brand new classmates... in a new state!  He didn't show his nerves until we got to the new school.  All of a sudden, my social butterfly clammed up and became very quiet... very reserved.  We entered the classroom and the new teacher showed Trale his new chair.  It wasn't too long Trale got back up from his chair to go and meet his nearby classmates.

I imagine he's already talking about his favorite Lego Star Wars video game as I type.

Worley Bird

Who rocked the CMT Crossroads Bar last night? Darryl Worley!!
If you missed the show check out the video!

During the meet and greet with Darryl, he invited us up to the bus with our KRMD listener winners to listen to his new CD and check out a rough draft of his new video. Once on stage, he actually said my name three times at various times during the concert. Once to ask people to hunt me down to play his new song and a few other times when he was talking about his new record deal... we had talked about that earlier on the bus. Everybody came up to me and said how cool Worley was. He was super cool and a great performer. Check out some of the pics below!

Dreaming of Work

Ever dream about your job? When I first started radio years ago, I used to have nightmares about being in the studio, having dead air and couldn't fix it. It's been a while since I've had radio dreams. Lately, I've been dreaming about work again. Like I don't get enough of my job 8 to 10 hours a day, I gotta come home and dream about it too?
For some strange reason it's been about CumulusJobs.com. I know, wierd. I dreamed I was in the studio trying to make a new CumulusJobs.com commercial. Last night I was visiting another Cumulus radio market in Midland/Odessa. In my dream, the station was inside of a car dealership. I thought... those guys must be bombarded by car salesmen everyday when they go to work!  At least I'm not having dead air dreams again!

Been dreaming about work lately?

John McCain: Take My Wife Please

John McCain suggested his wife enter a beauty pageant at the huge motorcycle rally, Sturgis, this year. It's called the Miss Buffalo Chip contest... Here's the thing about Miss Buffalo Chip, the contestants are encouraged and often go topless in the contest. If McCain didn't know it was topless it's funny... if he DID know it was a topless pageant, it's FUNNIER! Check it out...

Mayor Cedric Glover: The Rock Star

I was doing a live broadcast for for the Horsepower, Hawgs and Hot Rods event at Tilley's in Shreveport this past Saturday afternoon.  Yes, it was hot.  I felt every bit of that 105 degrees, when all of a sudden into the the heat walks in Shreveport Mayor, Cedric Glover.  I had heard him a million times on TV and radio for the new recycling program, but never in person.  He walks over to us at the KRMD table to say hi, and the next thing I know there is a pilgrimage of people wanting to shake hands and meet the mayor.  He was a rock star.  I got him to join me on the air for a sec.  I asked him if he could do anything in the Mayor's office about this heat.  Mayor Glover was quick to point out that he was "in charge of the cool.... the city council was in charge of the heat in Shreveport."  Mayor Glover rocks!!

The Radio Ranch

I grew up just north of Houston and grew up listening to the radio. All the big stations: KRBE, 93Q (when it was pop,) KILT and KIKK were my favorites as a kid. One day I figured, I wanted to be on the radio too.  Got around to high school and got that chance.  At the time, I didn't realize that this is what I'd still be doing 14 years from now.  Made the circuit around Texas and landed on the air in Houston at KIKK and KILT for a little time. A dream come true to work for the stations you grew up listening to!

Last weekend, I drove down to Houston to be a part of the very first Houston Radio Reunion.  I knew I wasn't one of the legends in the market, but I definitely wanted to schmooze with them!!  It was great!  I remembered when I signed up there was only a short list of folks.  When I got to Tin Hall, there were over 400 people on the list!  An amazing turnout of some of the "who's who" in Houston Radio.

I got to see the guy that got it all started for me, Barry Kaye, at that little station in (at the time) Huntsville, KVST.  Barry is one of those aforementioned Houston Radio legends who made a name for himself in Houston and later in Los Angeles.  I remember him telling me..."what are you crazy?" when I said I wanted to be on the radio 14 years ago.  When I saw him at the reunion, I said laughing... "it's hasn't been that bad."
