You know when you drive up somewhere and you see a few thousand people waiting to see some anglers ride off in their boats that you are at something big. I was there. The first day of the Bassmaster Classic. Touted at the "superbowl" of fishing. Um... yeah! I get that.
There were so many people up by the docks, I couldn't even see the boats in the water. I was there working for the radio station reporting back to the morning show the happenings and the madness of this morning. Which, by the way, it was 29 degrees at the dock according my phone.
No way you could get me in a boat when it's 29 degrees outside. I asked a few of the Bassmaster people why they picked the winter to do a fishing tournament like this. One of the pro anglers told me that it used to be done in August, but the tourney people wanted to use The Classic as a kick off to the bass fishing season.
I ran into the founder of BASS and the Bassmaster Classic, Ray Scott, who I remember growing up watching the fishing shows on the weekends with my Dad. I got Charlie, our street team guy to snap a pic of my and Mr. Scott and then emailed it to my Dad!
Even if you are not into fishing, the excitement of this morning's event was enough to make you a fan! I learned more about the Bassmaster Classic in the two hours at the launch event than the three months leading up to it!
It's a busy weekend. Mardi Gras is tomorrow!
