Another Todd Rant!
Who didn't sit in traffic today on 98 coming into Ft. Walton Beach today? The 4 or 5 car accident plugged things up for sure. On top of that, Hurlburt Field was conducting a training exercise. Not to mention that two school zones are on a major thoroughfare... Some were stuck in traffic for nearly 2 hours! Woof!
Help us somebody!! Build an overpass at Hurlburt to bypass the daily madness.. and let's figure out a better way for school zones on what are now major roads.
This is Ft. Walton Beach, not Los Angeles!

C'Mon! Todd, you drove from the Woodlands into houston to work at KILT and THIS bothered you!?
There are plans already made up to build a new entrance gate, and an overpass, at the Hurlburt entrance on 98. However, I hear they won't be set in motion for at least another two -five years. The base is still doing surveys of the area, tweaking the plans, and cost of construction materials are prohibitively expensive right now. Road asphalt is a petroleum based product, and we all know the price of oil right now. Then there's the cost of running the machinery, the cost of moving and installing underground utilities and traffic lights. There'll be issues with traffic control, and weather, if any hurricanes roll in. Just to redo several miles of road and overpass, you're looking at several-plus million dollars.
Thing is, once they start building, traffic will get worse before it gets better, and construction could take over a year. Get ready for orange barrels and single lanes.
So was that the good news or the bad news? lol.
